I’ve been fortunate to be invited to be part of a group of drummers that will be performing at all the Vancouver Whitecaps home games. We will hype the crowd before the game, and play on the pitch as the players run out onto the field. Everyone is getting very excited about it, as the season starts in 2 weeks with a friendly match this Saturday. This season is going to be a lot of fun!
Gwen Guthrie was a fantastic r&b/soul singer who also sang backing vocals for great artists such as Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, and Madonna. Sadly, she passed on in 1999 due to uterine cancer. She recorded some utterly amazing music during her visit to this planet, and several of her cuts got the remix treatment from none other than Larry Levan, of Paradise Garage fame. This track is so badass, and even moreso is the instrumental version, which I couldn’t find on youtube to showcase. Both versions were remixed by Levan. Essential!
Stoked to be playing this show in Gibsons, BC this Friday, which is located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
Details:
Well there is a lot of excitement about having RENNIE FOSTER from Tokyo back in BC after all these years! He’s had a major following as a “founder of good times” on the west coast. Those who know him know hes capable of tearing up a dance floor! He has many uninterrupted years in his career as a DJ and producer and to watch him do his dirty work is a schooling and an audio treat! get ready to FREAK OUT!
Now, INTRINSIC has the largest repertoire of music of anyone I know. He has an incredible gift to set the scene and throw down quality track after track. A diamond in the rough; any one who has had the opportunity to see him play has consistently reported that his selections are prime and his sets are killer! don’t miss this special occasion! THIS FRIDAY Aug 20!

This is “Another Good Vibe Throw Down” at the Jordao PhotoGraphic Studio Gallery, and nearing the last days of Summer Officiale!
The question will be asked, “What makes you feel good?”
(There will be a great mirror dedicated to writing it all down!)
It should be a cool night and there is outdoor undercover space if it happens to drizzle a bit on us.
Ring me at the number above if you have any questions. I”d love to hear from you!
Well, that’s all she wrote… Unfortunately the Vancouver Canucks playoff hopes fizzled out in game 6 against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. It was an almost eerie reminder of the last playoff series against them, where we suffered an identical game 6 loss, occurring on the exact same day 1 year ago. Perfectly shitty. So for now, I suppose we can hope to see the Montreal Canadians win tomorrow in game 7 against last year’s champs the Pittsburgh Penguins. At least that will leave us Vancouverites some sort of excitement to look forward to, basically turning it into a Canada VS US thing… Jaroslav Halak has been playing fantastic in the net, so maybe they have a chance of going all the way. “Go HABS!” Whatever…
Last night after finishing up my gig in North Van, I decided to meet up with my bro Nathan, and he tells me he’s at some huge party under a bridge in east Van put on by Hyaenas. Holy frackles it was hands down the dopest thing I’ve been to in Vancouver since I moved here. There was great music for the short while (not sure who was on) I was there, which was dub/ragga based. The lineup consisted of Basketball, Max Ulis, No Gold, Phowa, The Brown Acid and Hyaenas crew. The sound wasn’t exactly huge but what blew my mind the most was the fact that there were like 500-800 people there between the grungy metal bridge girders and rubble and discarded furniture. It was so ghetto, and SO beautiful. I could only imagine a detroit techno party going off there. It was rad as shit. I knew it couldn’t last and sure enough, the cops came to herd everyone out of there. I don’t know what else happened next exactly cause I took off before any cop backup arrived, but man it was great until about 3:20am or so… Here are a couple dodgy shots of the crowd and one of Nathan & Sam…
AGFA, or at least one half of AGFA, Frank Cueto, played some pretty sweet funk/disco/house tunes down at Shine last night. He was supported by DJ Neighbour, DJ Evo & Three piece suite and MC Think Tank on the mic. Here are a few pics from the night…
One of my favorite funk groups, All Good Funk Alliance (Funk Weapons, Washington DC), are playing tonight at Shine Nightclub alongside local Disco/Boogie funkster, Neighbour (Funk Weapons, Good Groove), DJ Evo & Three Piece Suit, with MC Think Tank on the microphone! Should be dope!
